Overview
The 50W LP Fiber Laser is built on JPT’s LP source line, model YDFLP-E-50-LP-L-R. LP stands for “Long Pulse” but functionally what makes the LP line different from MOPA M7/M8 is two things: a fixed 200 ns pulse width (not adjustable like M7’s 2 to 500 ns range), and a narrower 1 to 600 kHz frequency range (M7 goes to 4000 kHz). The architecture is still MOPA-based, just with simpler control electronics. Result: a substantially lower price point than equivalent-power M7, traded against the loss of color marking capability and shorter-pulse work.
This is the right machine when your work is monochrome industrial marking and engraving and you do not need color marking or sub-200 ns pulse work. Typical buyers are production shops doing ID plates, serialized variable text on metal parts, gun engraving (black marks on slides and frames), knife blade engraving, industrial signage on stainless and aluminum, and similar monochrome work where the LP’s fixed pulse is more than adequate. If your work involves color marking on stainless steel (anodized rainbow effects, brand colors), the LP cannot do it; you want a MOPA M7 instead.

The wider M² beam quality (less than 1.8 versus M7’s less than 1.4) means the focused spot is larger, which affects fine-resolution work. For 0.5 mm or smaller text, the LP is at the edge of its resolution envelope; for 1 mm and larger text or vector logos, the LP performs essentially identically to M7 because the spot size is small enough relative to the feature size.

What this machine can do
The 50W LP is purpose-built for monochrome industrial marking and engraving at production volumes. Five canonical workloads:
Industrial ID plates and serial tags
Anodized aluminum data plates, stainless tags, equipment ID labels at production volumes. The LP’s fixed pulse is fine for monochrome black-on-aluminum marks.
Firearm slide and frame engraving
Black monochrome marks on hardened steel and aluminum slides, frames, and grip panels. MOPA color marking isn’t typically needed for firearms work.
Knife blade and handle engraving
Brand marks, custom names, ricasso markings on hardened tool steel and damascus. Black marks on knife blade steel is the LP’s bread and butter.
Stainless and aluminum signage
Architectural signage, equipment labels, machine nameplates. The 50W tier handles large-format monochrome work that 20-30W LP machines run too slowly for.
Light deep engraving
Reaches 0.15 to 0.3 mm depth on mild steel and brass at production speeds. Limited compared to M7 deep engraving but adequate for most monochrome work.
What the 50W LP cannot do: color marking on stainless or titanium (fixed 200 ns pulse cannot tune the heat-affected zone for color), plastic cold marking (the wider pulse melts thin plastic), fine-resolution work below 0.5 mm text (M² less than 1.8 spot is too wide), short-pulse work (anything below 200 ns is off the table).

Software and upgrade options
This machine ships with the standard Sino-Galvo SG7110 galvo head and EZCad 2 software included on USB. Two optional factory upgrades extend what the machine can do; either can be configured at the time of order.
Base configuration: SG7110 head + EZCad 2 + LightBurn via adapter
The standard configuration covers all flat-surface 2D marking applications. EZCad 2 is the most widely used fiber laser control software in production environments, with full support for variable text, serialized marking, photo engraving, vector imports, and TCP/IP and I/O integration for production lines. LightBurn is supported via a USB adapter that ships with the machine for operators who prefer that workflow.
2.5D upgrade: BJJCZ G3 Pro head + EZCad 3 (USD 750)
This upgrade replaces the SG7110 with the BJJCZ G3 Pro head and adds EZCad 3 software (included). What you gain: stepped Z-axis control during a single design pass. The laser can mark at two or three different focal heights on the same workpiece without manually re-cranking the Z between layers. Right for stepped workpieces, terraced parts, deep-engraving multi-pass jobs, and any application where distinct height layers need to be marked in one sequence.
Full 3D upgrade: Feeltek FR10-F dynamic-focus head + LenMark (USD 5,500)
The FR10-F steers focus in software (LenMark) and uses no swappable field lens — it is offered in 100 × 100 mm and 200 × 200 mm field sizes.
This upgrade replaces the SG7110 with the Feeltek FR10-F 3D dynamic-focus head and adds LenMark software (Feeltek’s controller-side 3D mapping and design-wrap software). What you gain: continuous focal-length adjustment as the galvo mirrors point the beam across a curved or three-dimensional workpiece. The beam stays at true focus across the full surface in real time, not just one calibrated band.
When to choose the 3D upgrade: production volume on curved workpieces. If you are running dozens to thousands of curved parts per shift (rounded glass bottles, watch case-backs, ceramic vials, headphone shells, lampshades, contoured metal parts), the 3D head pays back through faster cycle time and consistent edge-to-edge focus quality. For one-off curved jobs the standard fixed-focus head with manual Z repositioning still works, but the cycle time per piece is significantly longer. The math typically points to the 3D upgrade once you commit to a recurring production run on curved parts.

Marking area by lens
The included lens choice determines the marking area on the workpiece. Every JPT machine ships with two lenses of your choice from the standard set; the 175 mm lens is included by default unless you specify otherwise at checkout.

Shorter focal lengths give finer beam spots and higher detail resolution at the cost of a smaller marking area. Longer focal lengths cover more area at the cost of slightly softer detail. Most production shops run two lenses (one shorter, one longer) to cover the working range without swapping mid-job.

Both upgrades are installed at the factory at the time of order. Adding either later requires shipping the machine back as a service exchange, which is doable but takes longer than ordering with the upgrade up front. If you know at purchase that you will be marking stepped or curved workpieces in volume, configure the upgrade at checkout.

Warranty
The 50W LP includes a 2-year warranty on JPT LP source and machine. 2 years rather than 3 reflects the LP tier in our warranty matrix; no-prefix M7 and M8 sources carry the 3-year term. Coverage scope is the same (manufacturer defects, source failure not caused by misuse, control electronics), just the duration differs.

Frequently asked questions
Why is the LP cheaper than the MOPA at the same power?
The LP source has simpler control electronics: fixed pulse width (200 ns, not adjustable) and a narrower frequency range (1 to 600 kHz instead of 1 to 4000 kHz). The savings come from the source itself, not from a downgraded chassis or scanner. You get the same Sino-Galvo SG7110, same machine build, same accessories. The trade-off is loss of color marking capability and fine-pulse control, which most monochrome production workloads don’t need.
Can the 50W LP do color marking on stainless steel?
No. Color marking on stainless requires the ability to tune both pulse width and frequency to control the heat-affected zone. The LP’s fixed 200 ns pulse cannot do this. For color marking on stainless you need a MOPA source (30W or 60W E-series MOPA, 100W M7 MOPA, etc.).
Can it engrave hardened steel?
Yes for marking and light deep engraving. Black monochrome marks on hardened tool steel work well at 50W LP. Deep engraving above 0.3 mm depth becomes slow because the wider beam (M² less than 1.8) is less efficient than the tighter M7 beam at sustained ablation; for production deep engraving, step up to 100W or 200W M7.

What is the learning curve coming from a diode laser?
Easier than MOPA, harder than diode. You have to learn fiber laser parameter tuning (frequency, speed, power), but you don’t have to learn pulse width tuning because the LP’s pulse is fixed. Most operators are productive within 2 to 3 days of hands-on practice on marking parameter sets for their typical materials.
Are duties really paid by you for international buyers?
For US, Canada, and EU 27 buyers, yes. DDP shipping covers customs duties, import tariffs, and clearance fees as part of the purchase price. Rest of world: free shipping but customs is the buyer’s responsibility at destination port.
