Overview

The 120W MOPA M7 is the closest sibling to our flagship 100W tier. Source YDFLP-120-M7-M-R, no-prefix M7 architecture, same physical chassis as the 100W (13.2 kg source, 338 × 280 × 112 mm), same 48V supply, same MOPA pulse range, same 3-year warranty. The only meaningful difference is 20% more average power, which translates into measurably faster cycle times on production marking but does not unlock new application categories.

Most production shops choose 120W over 100W in one of three scenarios. First, their 100W workload is hitting throughput limits (running at 80% duty cycle or higher every shift) and the next logical step is more power. Second, they want headroom for occasional deeper engraving on harder steel where 100W gets thermally limited. Third, they want to standardize on a single source SKU for multiple machines and 120W gives more margin for varied work. Note that the 120W does NOT cut metal meaningfully thicker than the 100W (galvo geometry caps the cutting envelope around 0.5 to 0.8 mm) and the beam quality M² less than 1.4 is identical to the 100W.

What this machine can do

Application range is identical to the 100W M7 (color marking, jewelry, watch parts, electronics, light deep engraving, thin metal cutting) at slightly higher throughput. The 20% power bump is most visible in production-volume cycle times, not in expanding to new work categories.

Software and upgrade options

This machine ships with the standard Sino-Galvo SG7110 galvo head and EZCad 2 software included on USB. Two optional factory upgrades extend what the machine can do; either can be configured at the time of order.

Base configuration: SG7110 head + EZCad 2 + LightBurn via adapter

The standard configuration covers all flat-surface 2D marking applications. EZCad 2 is the most widely used fiber laser control software in production environments, with full support for variable text, serialized marking, photo engraving, vector imports, and TCP/IP and I/O integration for production lines. LightBurn is supported via a USB adapter that ships with the machine for operators who prefer that workflow.

2.5D upgrade: BJJCZ G3 Pro head + EZCad 3 (USD 750)

This upgrade replaces the SG7110 with the BJJCZ G3 Pro head and adds EZCad 3 software (included). What you gain: stepped Z-axis control during a single design pass. The laser can mark at two or three different focal heights on the same workpiece without manually re-cranking the Z between layers. Right for stepped workpieces, terraced parts, deep-engraving multi-pass jobs, and any application where distinct height layers need to be marked in one sequence.

Full 3D upgrade: Feeltek FR10-F dynamic-focus head + LenMark (USD 5,500)

The FR10-F steers focus in software (LenMark) and uses no swappable field lens — it is offered in 100 × 100 mm and 200 × 200 mm field sizes.

This upgrade replaces the SG7110 with the Feeltek FR10-F 3D dynamic-focus head and adds LenMark software (Feeltek’s controller-side 3D mapping and design-wrap software). What you gain: continuous focal-length adjustment as the galvo mirrors point the beam across a curved or three-dimensional workpiece. The beam stays at true focus across the full surface in real time, not just one calibrated band.

When to choose the 3D upgrade: production volume on curved workpieces. If you are running dozens to thousands of curved parts per shift (rounded glass bottles, watch case-backs, ceramic vials, headphone shells, lampshades, contoured metal parts), the 3D head pays back through faster cycle time and consistent edge-to-edge focus quality. For one-off curved jobs the standard fixed-focus head with manual Z repositioning still works, but the cycle time per piece is significantly longer. The math typically points to the 3D upgrade once you commit to a recurring production run on curved parts.

Marking area by lens

The included lens choice determines the marking area on the workpiece. Every JPT machine ships with two lenses of your choice from the standard set; the 175 mm lens is included by default unless you specify otherwise at checkout.

Shorter focal lengths give finer beam spots and higher detail resolution at the cost of a smaller marking area. Longer focal lengths cover more area at the cost of slightly softer detail. Most production shops run two lenses (one shorter, one longer) to cover the working range without swapping mid-job.

Both upgrades are installed at the factory at the time of order. Adding either later requires shipping the machine back as a service exchange, which is doable but takes longer than ordering with the upgrade up front. DDP transit is approximately 30 days by sea freight to US and Canada or 20 days by rail freight to EU 27, with customs and import duties included in the price. CIF air freight is available worldwide at 12 to 15 days transit if you prefer faster delivery and handle customs clearance yourself.

Warranty

3-year warranty on JPT M7 source plus machine. Same coverage and terms as the 100W M7. The JPT M7 source is rated for 100,000 hours continuous operation; warranty covers manufacturer defects and source failure not caused by misuse.

Frequently asked questions

Is 120W meaningfully different from 100W in real use?

For cycle time: yes, roughly 15 to 20% faster on production marking workloads. For application range: no, both machines cover the same range. For chassis and integration: identical, same physical box, same software. The 120W is the right call when your 100W is the production throughput bottleneck.

Can I upgrade my 100W machine to 120W in the field?

No. The source itself is different hardware (YDFLP-100-M7-M-R versus YDFLP-120-M7-M-R) and is not field-swappable. Buying a 120W machine outright is the path; the 100W you already own keeps running, doesn’t lose value as a second-machine asset.

Is the cooling really still air-cooled at 120W?

Yes. JPT specifies the YDFLP-120-M7-M-R as air-cooled, the same as the 100W and other M7 tiers up through 350W. No external chiller is needed. Ambient temperature should stay within 0 to 40 °C.

What is the power consumption difference vs 100W?

The 120W draws up to 450 W versus the 100W’s 400 W (about 12% more). At 8-hour shifts and US $0.15/kWh, that’s roughly $15 per year of additional electricity. Trivial compared to the throughput gain.

Does the 120W cut thicker metal than the 100W?

Marginally. The galvo geometry caps the cutting envelope around 0.5 to 0.8 mm regardless of power. The 120W cuts faster at the same thickness but the maximum thickness ceiling is set by beam quality and galvo, not by power. For sheet metal cutting above 1 mm you want a CNC fiber laser cutter.

How long until I receive the machine?

Are duties really included for international buyers?

For US, Canada, and the EU 27: yes. DDP shipping covers customs duties and import tariffs as part of the purchase price. Outside DDP zones: free shipping but customs is the buyer’s responsibility at destination.

Production deployment notes

Common 120W buyers are shops already running a 100W M7 who have outgrown its production capacity. Many are operating two machines (100W + 120W) so they can run different parameter sets on each without stopping to retune. Other 120W buyers are stepping up from 80W when they want the larger chassis form factor (same as 100W) for production-line integration.
